Hinckley Introduces the Innovative Picnic Boat 40

PORTSMOUTH, RI (September 25, 2017) — Hinckley, the builder of America’s finest yachts for nearly 90 years, today announced additional detail on the all new Picnic Boat 40 unveiled at the Newport International Boat Show.

The largest and most innovative Picnic Boat ever, the Picnic Boat 40 brings a fresh perspective on the most successful Hinckley series ever built. “Hinckley invented an entirely new class of boat with the introduction of the Picnic Boat nearly 25 years ago,” said Peter O’Connell, President and CEO of The Hinckley Company. “Beautiful lines, innovative systems and thoroughbred performance have always been hallmarks of the series, which has set the standard and captured imaginations everywhere. We are excited to continue our legacy of innovation by unveiling the largest and most advanced Picnic Boat Hinckley has ever developed.”

The hull of the new Picnic Boat 40 was designed by top naval architect Michael Peters and is built in Maine of Carbon construction with Corecell M Foam core. The hull is infused and post-cured with Epoxy resin for the lightest strength and durability for a faster, more fuel-efficient ride. This durability is backed by a lifetime hull and deck warranty.

The powered hull-side door eases entry onto the boat and unlike all other hull side doors in the market, it can be remotely opened as you approach and once opened it stows completely so that no cockpit space is sacrificed. Inside, the completely reimagined layout features seamless flow from transom to helm, plentiful lounging space, a wet bar, and full sun coverage by Sureshade. Digital switching allows you to easily transition the electronics from day mode to night mode at the touch of a button on the multifunction display. Dynamic steering adjusts the steering tension and controls lock to lock range as you change speed. The completely redesigned Jetstick III allows easy navigation through tight turns and docking at tricky marinas.

Below deck, the interior converts from cruising to day boating layout. With a 19 degree transom deadrise and a top speed of 34 knots, her twin Hamilton 322 high efficiency jet drives powered by twin Cummins 480 HP diesels provide the pinnacle in performance, handling and drive quality. Optional 550hp Cummins give the Picnic Boat 40 a top speed of 38 knots. Reservations for the Picnic Boat 40 are available now for delivery in Summer 2018.

About The Hinckley Company:

The Hinckley Company’s roots are deep in soil of Maine boatbuilding. The company, founded in 1928 to build and care for the boats of the local lobstermen, has been in continuous operation building such classics as the Bermuda 40 and the Picnic Boat. Henry Hinckley set the course with the Bermuda 40 in the early 1960s when he crafted her stunning lines out of a radical, new material, fiberglass. This combination of elegant form, material innovation and brilliant attention to finishing detail set the course Hinckley has been on ever since in the pleasure boat business.

Today, Hinckley builds Jetboats and sailboats from 29 to 55 feet and supports its owners and other yachtsmen with its network of service yards from Maine to Florida. Two other distinguished boat builders, Hunt Yachts and Morris Yachts, were acquired in 2013 and 2016 respectively.
