Phil Bennett, Southwest Harbor, ME

In 1989 Phil joined the sales team at The Hinckley Company, which was one of his original customers at Hood Sailmakers in Marblehead, where he previously worked running numerous service lofts, including the America’s Cup Loft in 1974. After many years selling sails and sail handling systems, he was named V.P. of Sales and Marketing for the Hood organization worldwide before joining Hinckley.

Prior to his tenure with Hood, Phil was General Manager at the Sailboats Northeast Group, a retailer of everything from entry level boats to custom yachts, with offices throughout New England. While there he was tapped to sit on numerous manufacturer and marine industry advisory boards.

Phil Bennett began his career in the marine industry in the late 1950s when, as a young boy, he worked the New York Boat Show with his grandfather, a sailor and boat builder who saw the future of fiberglass. Phil grew up sailing and messing around in boats near his family home in Mystic, Connecticut. From there he worked his way through school while honing his skills aboard various private yachts.

Phil’s close association with Hinckley owners and the talented crews in the Hinckley building/service shops provide him with both a unique perspective on (and a lifelong appreciation for) the Hinckley brand. Phil acts as a teacher and coach to other members of the staff, and is often called upon as a spokesperson for the company with both the media and the public.
